Opt-In: Older People and Technological Innovation

This EU funded two year project was launched in August 2009 and aims to to explore if and how new technologies can improve the quality of life of older people. New Technologies improve the accessibility of information, enhance contact possibilities and contribute to people's independence. Investigating whether existing pedagogic approaches are the best way of enabling older people to learn new technologies is according to us one of the methods to reach this aim. The project is led by Open University (United Kingdom) in collaboration with four other partners:
  • University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences (Slovenia)
  • University of Stirling (United Kingdom)
  • Technical University of Dortmund, Institute of Gerontology (Germany)
  • Verwey-Jonker Instituut (Netherlands)

Older People and Technological Inclusion

This ESRC Seminar Series, taking place at the Open University in Milton Keynes in 2011 and 2012, aims to explore the concept of technological inclusion in relation to older people's experiences of everyday life. Given that each older person - whether using technologies a lot or a little - has his or her own individual experiences and viewpoints, we also aim to critically examine some different understandings of the use and usability of technologies.
